Jedi Mind Trick
Aliases: none Status: Minor Origin: Uncle Rob Wielder: Homeboy
A vape pen from Rob’s inventory that turns verbal suggestions, backed by hand gestures, into accepted instructions — when it works, which is not every time. Its one confirmed triumph is genuinely absurd: an unauthorized astronaut substitution and launch.
Description
The pen is loaded and handed off like so many of Rob’s devices: present, vape, gesture, suggest. Homeboy takes Rob’s vape pen, shares it with Chino first, and later deploys it as a persuasion tool — gestures and verbal suggestions aimed at people who should know better. Earlier attempts fail, which is worth remembering, because the one that succeeds does so at the worst possible venue for plausible deniability.
Role in Volume 01
- Night School: Homeboy’s attempt on an engineer succeeds. The engineer repeats their suggestions and admits them as astronauts, producing the unauthorized substitution and launch. The pen’s record is therefore one spectacular hit after visible misses — a batting average the saga never bothers to calculate.
Notes
- “Jedi Beer Goggles” is a joke proposal — a punchline, not a name. It does not belong in aliases, and it does not deserve its own entry.
- Exact dose, resistance thresholds, and gesture requirements are unknown. The text shows attempts that fail and one that doesn’t; it does not supply the theory of why.
- The Airwomen’s interest in Homeboy, and the dates that follow, are not established as magically compelled by the pen. The story shows them happening; it does not show the pen causing them. Keep the romance human until the text says otherwise.
- Shares a story with Rob’s surveillance hardware; cross-link only where a future entry exists. (Per the brief, the Vandenberg coverage distinguishes the covert device deployments from the unconfirmed causation of the spacecraft blackout — the pen is one device among several in that operation, not the demonstrated cause of everything.)
