Uncle Rob’s Original House
Aliases: none Status: Major
Uncle Rob’s Original House is where the saga’s hardware gets built: the home and garage where the time portal goes up, where the crew gathers between disasters, where the alien plants get experimented on, and where Killian’s apparent corpse gets examined. It is the original base of operations — and it stays the original base even after a much bigger one shows up. The mansion’s existence establishes nothing about this property’s fate.
Description
The house is a working mad-scientist residence: living space up front, and a garage that does the heavy lifting. The garage is the portal workshop — beer cans, boxes, duct tape, and a Flux Capacitor, assembled into a machine that sends the protagonists to yesterday and then collapses on them. Beyond the portal era, the garage remains the place where things get built, taken apart, and examined: it is where the crew brings Killian’s apparent corpse to figure out what they’re dealing with.
The house itself is the gathering point — the default location when the crew needs to meet, plan, or just be in the same room. It also serves as the alien-plant experimentation base, where Rob works the crop the crew lifted off the alien ship.
The garage
The garage deserves its own billing because the garage is where the plot happens. Portal construction, portal operation, portal failure — all garage. The later examination of Killian’s apparent corpse happens here too, which makes the garage the property’s morgue as well as its laboratory. What the text doesn’t establish is a full inventory: the garage is described by what gets built and examined in it, not by a parts list.
Role in Volume 01
- Uncle Rob’s Time Portal: First appearance, and the garage’s finest hour. The portal is built here from beer cans, boxes, and duct tape around the Flux Capacitor; it sends Chino and Homeboy to yesterday, goes unstable, and collapses — producing the two-Homeboy situation and leaving missing technology for the aliens to research later.
- There Can Be Only One: the house serves as the examination site for Killian’s apparent corpse — the trash-bag mummy that turns out to be alive, Welsh, and immortal.
- Across the volume, the house recurs as the crew’s gathering place and Rob’s experimentation base, including the alien-plant work.
Relationships
- Uncle Rob: owner, builder, examiner of corpses. The house is his before the mansion is anyone’s.
- Chino, Homeboy: the crew that gathers here — and the reason the garage has a body-count-adjacent incident log.
- Killian: examined here; buried (attempted) elsewhere.
Notes
- This is not Killian’s Mansion. The mansion is a separate, later property on 120 acres; Rob’s move there does not establish that this house was sold, abandoned, or stripped of equipment. The text is silent on all three, and this page stays silent with it.
- “Original” is an editorial label, not a name the characters use. It exists to keep the two properties apart, which the text’s own naming habits (“his new mansion”) make necessary.
- The garage’s contents are documented by event, not by inventory. If a future volume catalogs the workbench, this page can too.
