Interstellar Joint

Aliases: none Status: Minor Origin: Supplied by Uncle Rob, rolled in deep-blue paper Wielder: Mary Jane

The joint that sends Mary Jane out of three dimensions and leaves her clothes behind. Uncle Rob gives Homeboy the deep-blue-paper joint; Mary Jane consumes it and disappears — while her clothes remain, sitting empty, in a visual the story does not let you unsee. Her voice stays audible, she perceives time changing at the apartment’s location, and she eventually interacts with the Monopoly board, dice, and token before returning. Rob’s proposed four-to-five-month prognosis fails in this case; she is not gone that long.

Description

The joint’s distinguishing mark is its deep-blue paper — the text is specific about the color, which is more than it gives for most of Rob’s products. The effect is dimensional displacement into the Fourth and Fifth Dimension: Mary Jane vanishes from ordinary space but is not gone. Her clothes stay behind, unworn. Her voice remains audible to the people in the apartment. She perceives the passage of time at the apartment’s location, anchored to the spot even while displaced from it.

The return trip is the interesting part. She doesn’t just reappear; she interacts with ordinary objects first — the Monopoly board, the dice, the token — demonstrating that the condition permits contact with the physical world before full return. The Monopoly set acquires no magical identity of its own for participating; it is an ordinary board game that happened to be in the room. Rob’s forecast of four to five months does not hold. The text supplies no general entry or exit rules for the condition beyond this one case.

Role in Volume 01

  • Mary Jane’s Four Dimensional Adventure: Rob gives Homeboy the deep-blue-paper joint; Mary Jane consumes it and disappears, her clothes remaining. Audible but unseen, she perceives time at the apartment’s location, later manipulates the Monopoly board, dice, and token, and returns — well short of Rob’s four-to-five-month prognosis.

Role in Volume 02

  • Volume 2 recalls Mary Jane’s dimensional experience — a look back at the event, not a second trip.

Notes

  • The ordinary Monopoly set does not become a magical artifact by participating in her return. No separate entry, no powers, no lore — it was in the room.
  • Rob’s four-to-five-month prognosis is a failed prediction, stated plainly. The actual duration is shorter; the text does not give a precise figure.
  • General geography of the Fourth and Fifth Dimension and universal entry/exit rules are unknown. This page covers the one demonstrated case.
