Emporium Duplication Pods

Aliases: none Status: Major

The machinery at the bottom of Mr. Bitches’ Emporium of Sex — warm, leafy, organically connected pods that hold the originals of the Emporium’s performers in a hidden lower chamber and sustain their copies upstairs. Dismantling this system liberates Sarah Yazzie and collapses the enterprise. It is the most consequential piece of technology in the Volume 2 Mr. Bitches arc, and it is grown, not built.

Description

The pods sit in a hidden chamber beneath the Emporium’s commercial frontage — the Hub, the Palace of Pleasure, the cinema and retail departments are the building’s public face; the pod chamber is what the building is actually for. The pods are organic: warm, leafy, connected to each other like something cultivated rather than installed. Each pod holds an original — a real person — in some kind of suspended maintenance, and the copies walking the floors above are sustained by the arrangement below. A Hostess warns that opening an original’s pod will kill its copies.

Role in Volume 02

  • Mr. Bitches and the Emporium of Sex: The group finds the hidden lower chamber and learns the rules the hard way. Disconnecting further pods wakes the originals — and the armed copies do not simply power down; they burst into blue-purple material. The enterprise’s end comes with the system’s dismantling: Sarah Yazzie is liberated, and Mr. Bitches’ operation collapses with the pods that powered it.

Cinderella Mushrooms

The pod system’s supply chain runs through Uncle Hank and a crate marked Cinderella. Hank calls them magic mushrooms of his own design — “CINDERELLA” is the source label, and Hank’s description of its contents is what the wiki can vouch for. The observed chain is this: the originals in the pod chamber are fed mushrooms, and crates are delivered to Mr. Bitches. Hank’s supply relationship with the Emporium is what the evidence establishes; there is no standalone mushroom mechanism on record.

What the text does not explain: the full process from mushroom to duplicate, the required dose, the duration, and any independent mind-control properties. Chino’s initial theory — that the mushrooms are about slave control — is incomplete, and the text does not finish it for him. This subsection is the wiki’s Cinderella coverage; no separate page is warranted until the story supplies more. Record Cinderella as a related supply, without inventing the missing manufacturing steps.

Notes

  • These organic copies are distinct from Mr. Bitches’ Sex Robots, the mechanical successor operation. Grown copies and bolted machines are not the same thing, and the wiki does not equate them: one is sustained by living pods, the other is programmed metal. Keep the two entries — and their casualty lists — apart.
  • The Hostess’s warning is reported, not tested to its limits: opening an original’s pod kills its copies, per the one character who explains the system. What happens to a copy whose pod is merely damaged, or left unplugged but intact, goes unstated.
  • The blue-purple burst is what armed copies do when the system breaks; the text does not establish whether unarmed copies, Hostess staff, or partially formed copies share the same fate.
  • The pod chamber is a section of the Emporium complex, not a competing place entry.
