Aliases: none Status: Major Origin: The hydroponic crop aboard the alien research vessel

The alien hydroponic crop that hands out superpowers like party favors — briefly. Smoked aboard the alien research ship, it gives Chino mind reading and Homeboy invisibility. The catch, and there is always a catch: Homeboy’s clothes stay visible while the rest of him doesn’t, and the invisibility eventually wears off. Exact doses, duration, and how the plant picks its powers are unknown. Harvested material from the crop later becomes the raw material for Uncle Rob’s Bayankala experiment — see Cursed Joint of Bayankala.

Description

The original crop grows in the hydroponics bay of the alien research vessel, where the protagonists get into it during the smoke circle. The effects differ by smoker: Chino can read minds, Homeboy turns invisible. The invisibility is partial in a way that matters — his clothing remains visible, so he reads less as “gone” and more as “floating laundry with intent.” The effect is also temporary; the invisibility is eventually lost. The text establishes none of the mechanics behind any of this: not the dose, not the duration, not the selection of powers, not why two smokers get two different abilities.

Role in Volume 01

  • Uncle Rob and the Aliens: The protagonists smoke the hydroponic crop aboard the ship. Chino gains mind reading; Homeboy gains invisibility with visible clothing. The invisibility later wears off.
  • The crop is harvested — Mrs. Dealer’s harvest account covers the taking of the material — and Uncle Rob’s later experiment with the harvested plants is explicitly connected to Bayankala (see Cursed Joint of Bayankala).

Role in Volume 02

  • Volume 2 keeps the weed in play through related cultivation. Forest-derived Earth/other-planet hybrid plants appear as a related line, with their lineage kept distinct from the original crop.
  • Mr. Dealer gives a second account: he says he took plants growing wild beside the dispensary. This is a different story from Volume 1’s cultivated redneck farm and Mrs. Dealer’s harvest account, and the relationship between the two accounts is unresolved. The wiki does not merge them.

The Two Accounts

Volume 1 depicts a cultivated redneck farm, plus Mrs. Dealer’s account of the harvest. Volume 2 has Mr. Dealer saying he took plants growing wild beside the dispensary. Both accounts concern alien-derived plants; neither is confirmed to be the other’s source, and the brief keeps their relationship explicitly unresolved. Until the text says otherwise, they are two accounts of two acquisitions, not one story told twice.

Notes

  • “Alien OG” is not automatically the same crop as the original hydroponic harvest. Named strains do not automatically descend from it, either. The wiki treats every strain claim as its own claim until the text connects it.
  • Dose, duration, and power selection are unknown. Anything more specific than “it gave Chino mind reading and Homeboy invisibility, and the invisibility wore off” is not established.
