Nagan

Aliases: none Status: Major
The “grand wizard” of the Redneck Vampires, a bloated vampire draped in white KKK robes who rules from a throne cobbled together from busted recliners, broken dining chairs, and two halves of a loveseat. He makes his entrance swaggering in with a six-pack of Budweiser, chugs a can, and tosses it at Chino’s chest. He has never seen the Negan season of The Walking Dead, and learning this becomes the hinge of the story. He is the only on-page “wizard” in the saga and is not one of the five parked wizards.
Role in Volume 02
- Of Rednecks and Vampires: His only appearance. Captured scouts Chino, Homeboy, and Count Dragula kneel before him at riflepoint while he demands “What’s your name, boy?” (“Megatron.“) The Walking Dead mix-up breaks the tension: Nagan has not seen that season, begs “No! Don’t spoil it for me!”, and ends up watching a full season with the prisoners on a flatscreen bolted to a shopping cart. When Uncle Hank’s assault looms, Nagan threatens to eat Homeboy for supper, then sends Chino to parley. At the negotiation table he strips off his robes, sits naked and unbothered, and renounces his old thinking: “I see that I’ve been thinking wrong about colored people all my life.” He pledges “this coven will never feast on human beings… involuntarily, of course,” and closes the peace by hugging Uncle Hank and proposing they talk business about errant members of his clan.
Notes
- “Nagan” and “Negan” are different people: Nagan is the vampire grand wizard; Negan is the Walking Dead character he has never seen. The prose plays this confusion for an extended scene.
- His Klan affiliation is renounced on-page; the dossier records the robes because the prose dresses him in them.
- The prose never gives him another name; “Nagan” is the only one provided.
