Status: Supporting

A long-haired blond vampire in sandals and an open Hawaiian shirt, which he flares out like a cape. He can’t smoke, eat, or do much of anything. The only way he gets high is secondhand, out of the blood of someone who already is. He can name the strain in your blood by smell, hates ganja-tainted blood like everyone else with fangs, and appoints himself Chino and Mary Jane’s supernatural bloodhound in the hunt for Homeboy. Title character of Count Dragula.

Description

Tall, blond, long-haired, deeply chill: a surfer drawl wrapped around old-world manners (full low bow on introduction). The Hawaiian shirt is worn open and deployed as a cape at dramatic moments. Nose like a sommelier: he reads faint Afghan Kush off Chino (you must have taken it yesterday) and a whisper of Durban Poison off Mary Jane (you write?, she journals). Allergic to everything fun firsthand, which he states with total serenity.

Role in Volume 01

In Count Dragula, Dragula startles Chino and Mary Jane in the alley (Blah, blah… I’m here to suck your blood… dude; Mary Jane nearly pees) and explains the arrangement: he needs quality blood from quality smokers, and it reeks of vampire down the block. At the Tri-Lamb house he does the story’s best detective work without touching anything: Edward squints at Homeboy’s photo, and vampires have perfect vision. he’s lying, man. The reveal detonates Edward and Jacob’s evening with Amy and Tara, after which Dragula sprints after the ladies of the night himself. He closes the story on Amy’s lap in the living room, skipping the blunt rotation in favor of her neck while Tara leads Chino to the bedroom.

The Adventures: Volume 02

  • Of Rednecks and Vampires: Joins the vampire hunt; sniffs a dozen weed strains off the mud-caked Homeboy. Gets captured with the recon team, briefly “joins the other side,” and celebrates the peaceful resolution from Chuy’s broken chair.

Relationships

  • Chino and Mary Jane: his clients, briefly; he likes them fine and works for weed-adjacent payment.
  • Edward and Jacob: lesser vampires, in his professional opinion; he exposes them without malice and without effort.
  • Amy: his end-of-evening companion.
  • Homeboy: the missing person; Dragula never meets him, which is probably for the best.

Notes

  • It fucking reeks of vampire in this alley, delivered with the serenity of a man commenting on the weather.
  • His name is doing a lot of work and he knows it.
