A Duende, a small mischievous spirit-creature with stubby feet, a shit-eating grin, and a finger snap that curses people. He arrives as a gift from El Cucuy in a beat-up pet carrier, and the boys name him Loki after his collar tag magically rewrites itself from DUENDE to LOKI. He eats children in folklore and King Taco in practice. He becomes Chuy’s best friend and constant companion, living with him in the Ominous Forest.

Role in Volume 02

• El Duende: His first appearance. Delivered to Chino and Homeboy as El Cucuy’s thank-you gift, he bursts from the carrier licking Homeboy’s face, gets named Loki by tag-magic, and eats all eight burritos and ten tacos meant for the group. At Uncle Rob’s mansion he takes offense at being called an ugly dog and snaps his fingers with a tiny pop, cursing Uncle Rob into a Doberman-like dog, then laughs, shrugs off every demand to undo it, and refuses. When Cesar Millan diagnoses the pack-leader problem and Chuy calmly takes the leash, the tag glows and rewrites itself to RAWR, and Rawr trails Chuy into the Ominous Forest.
• Uncle Rob and the Edibles Factory: Lounging at the mansion passing the hookah-bong hybrid with the crew. Chino tells Chuy that if they need help at the dispensary, they will call him and Rawr.
• Mr. Bitches and the Emporium of Sex: Rides along on the Gremlin delivery run, described as the demon duende with the soul of a cat, snoring through the trip.
• The Man of Iga: His biggest showcase. He and Chuy wrestle with wild energy, and Chino bars him from the King Taco run after “the desmadre from last time” got them banned. When the Man of Iga confronts the group, Rawr snaps his fingers and drops him to the ground like a puppet with cut strings, grinning wicked and proud while Chuy identifies him as his best friend. Against General Pain the snap does nothing: “Your powers won’t work on me,” the demon sneers, “little dog,” and Rawr answers with a helpless shrug.
• Of Rednecks and Vampires: Living in the Ominous Forest with Chuy. He joins the vampire-hunt party in the woods, arriving covered in tied twigs and shaking them off in a full-body shake.
• The Return of Dos Santos: Emerges from the trees beside Chuy with a grave expression as the crew faces Dos Santos, and later rides in the back seat of the escape.
• The Emperor of the Universe: Locked in a cosmic frisbee game with Chuy when the Emperor arrives, and dashes a few steps forward before vanishing in a blur.

Notes

• Loki and Rawr are one entity, not two characters. The boys name him Loki in “El Duende”; the tag rewrites to RAWR when Chuy claims him, and the prose calls him Rawr from that point on. Both names are kept here under the current one.
• The prose never settles what a Duende is beyond “an evil spirit that eats children” (per Homeboy) and a curse-layer (per Chino). Cesar Millan’s verdict stands as the wiki’s: “that is not a dog.”
