Aliases: Luis Dos Santos de Santa Ana Status: Deceased
A blind demon hunter, the one Lucy’s cadre has been quietly pursuing, who can see Free Angels as they truly are. We meet him bound to a chair in a basement, bloodied and entirely unrepentant, promising in Spanish to kill every one of them. He murders Mammon, wounds Azazel, nearly kills the whole crew in a bulletproof limousine, and ends the story buried in a hand-dug grave in the Ominous Forest. Whether he stays there is unknown.
Description
Lean, muscular, shaved head, eyes gone white all the way through, iris and all. Blind to the human world: he can’t see Chino, Homeboy, or Mary Jane, but he hears and smells them fine, and he sees Free Angels in their true celestial form. Speaks almost entirely in Spanish threats (Desgraciada demonio. Los voy a matar a todos. / ¡Ahora mueres, Satanás! / ¡Te voy a matar, demonio descarado!), delivered with total conviction. Impossibly dangerous even restrained: he saws through ropes with a glass shard, disarms a trained enforcer, and lands a point-blank headshot in one motion.
Role in Volume 01
In Lucy’s Box, Lucy explains what he is: blind, but blessed (or cursed) with sight of the Free Angels, which makes him their natural predator: when he kills one, it goes back to Heaven. Lucy’s interrogation gets nothing about the other hunters, so she orders him ended. That’s when the glass shard, the stolen gun, and the headshot happen. After the limo escape and the unlocked-door lunge, the crew subdues him (rear naked chokehold, plus Chino’s water-bottle-to-the-ass unconsciousness test, on the theory a hardcore religious man would fight to remove it). In the Ominous Forest clearing, Lucy beats him bloody with her fists and then her shoe, and the four of them bury him in a deep hole with their bare hands. His muffled curses follow him down.
The Adventures: Volume 02
- The Return of Dos Santos: Returns from the grave: torches Uncle Hank’s caravan, survives Uncle Hank’s gunfire (the wounds knit closed), and kidnaps Sarah Yazzie and Mary Jane, burying them alive in the Ominous Forest. Fights Killian and dies for good (“Dead, my friend. Dos Santos is dead.”). Status: deceased.
Relationships
- Lucy: his sworn enemy; he sees her true form and calls her Diablo to her face. She hates him back with interest.
- Azazel and Mammon: his captors, then his victims.
- Chino, Homeboy, Mary Jane: collateral he would happily kill; they return the favor with a chokehold and a shovel.
Notes
- The severed penis in the jar is his. The story never explains how Lucy’s cadre acquired it, and nobody asks twice.
- His fate is the volume’s darkest loose end: buried alive and unconscious in a hand-dug grave, with no shovels coming to dig him out.
